Did it change your mind When you watched his body die When the lights went out in his big brown eyes Did it change your mind Did it ache your heart When you watched him in his car His voice so calm up against the bark Did it ache your heart Did it cause you pain To think of that boy playing His shoes untied, his toy to blame Did it cause you pain Did it make you lose sleep When her name stopped ringing in the streets How her life was ended in her own sheets Did it make you lose sleep

I've paid lip service to a lot of things Like taking a position and volunteering Thought I was a body built real strong Who'd stand up for the people who had been wronged I've paid lip service to a lot of things Like hating politicians and being a commie But every other night I'm on the internet Trying to feed the hedon in my head I've got some learning to do I've got some learning to do I may know a thing or even two but I've got some learning to do I've paid lip service to hating the rich But the damn good truth is I'm not in a pinch Got a mom and a dad a house and a car And its often said that I'll go far So I looked myself up, looked myself down Said "open your eyes girl, look around You gotta bend your back, gotta work real hard Cause there's so many people who deserve much more" I've got some learning to do... And I asked myself what about the police And what if someone comes and steals from me But there's not good excuse to make that call cause The gun will come and someone's gonna lose it all I've said some words that I regret I've put my food deep down inside my head But I had some friends who walked me through and Said its ok but you got some learning to do I've got some learning to do...

Fifteen succulents later I'm ready to call this a home I wasn't planning on being a plant mom But for now there's no more road And I've got three sourdough starters I guess you could call them my friends They muck up my kitchen and sometimes I miss them And sometimes I wish they were dead This is me now... I guess, I guess This is me now... is it my best? Probably not But it's all that we've got Two foster dogs later And now I'm in need of a walk With someone who loves me who won't make me talk Make me unravel all of my thoughts And now I've got all the channels The handles and how to go mute But all of my dreams are of singing and drinking Around the whole lot of you This is me now... I guess, I guess This is me now... is it my best? Probably not But it's all that we've got

about

Sat down one day this July and whole bunch of songs came tumbling out. Here's three of them. In honor of some of my songwriting heroes-- Shel Silverstein, John Prine, Nina Simone-- I tried to say things as directly as I could and just let the songs be what they are.

'Change Your Mind' was written in honor of the countless Black lives that have been lost to police violence.

Half of all proceeds will be donated to My Block, My Hood, My City www.formyblock.org.

Be well.
